Album Info

Release Date: 1964

Label: USA Records

Don Knepp was a U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant who wrote parodies of other artists songs. For example “Bad Breath Carl” was a takeoff of Jimmy Dean’s “Big Bad John”, “Big Iron” was a reworking of the Marty Robbins song, and “Thunder Road” was a reworking of a song written by Don Raye and Robert Mitchum with different lyrics and new storylines. Altogether, Knepp released three singles on the USA label – “Cuba, Cuba, Cuba is My Home” b/w “Hello Leward Tower” (https://youtu.be/uxRCmMSTOoM) (USA 780), “Big Iron” b/w “Thunder Road” (USA 781) and “Bad Breath Carl” (https://youtu.be/-Bx8N5lN04w) b/w “Defex Blues” (https://youtu.be/EfT4GKJH8sY) (USA 782).
