Ram Chandra was born in Cacutta in 1932.
Having studied science and arts at the universities of Dacca and Calcutta, he proceeded to study Indian classical music - vocal, sitar, surbahr and mrdangam - with the great masters Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan, Ustad Waheed Khan, Pandit Purshattam Dass and Pandit Ganpat Rao. After having obtained, in 1968, study scholarships from governments of Italy and France, he founded schools for the study of sitar in Europe and in America. He has given solo recitals and music lectures and demonstrations in the style of Dhrupad throughout the world.
