The Disco Evangelists

Real name: David Holmes, Ashley Beedle

Effective period / Period of releases: 1993

Members: Ashley Beedle, David Holmes, Lindsay Edwards

The Disco Evangelists comprised Ashley Beedle, David Holmes and Lindsay Edwards. Originally released in Beedle's Black Sunshine Records before Positiva picked it up, their The Disco Evangelists - De Niro hit referred to the eponymous actor's movie, Once Upon A Time In America. The follow-up, The Disco Evangelists - A New Dawn (Back To The World) / A Peaceful World / Cosmik Byelaw 10, also found a home on Positiva's release schedule. Beedle worked alongside the Stereo MC's Nick Hallam and Rob Birch as Axis ('Rolling With Rai'), and as part of Workshy, X-Press 2, Black Science Orchestra and Marden Hill. In 1994, he unveiled a new outfit, Delta House Of Funk, which signed to Go! Discs. He has also worked remixes for Jodeci and East 17 ('Deep'). Similarly Holmes is one of the most interesting and prolific of England's DJ fraternity, working as part of Scubadevils (with ex-members of Dub Federation) and running the Sugarsweet/Exploding Plastic Inevitable club/label emprire in Belfast.
