"Los Jairas" are a Bolivian group who set out to demonstrate the rich variety of the wonderful but little known folkloric music of the Andes and, above all, of Bolivia. In a short space of time, thanks to the combined and individual talents of the musicians and the quality of their music, the group gained a well-earned reputation which soon spread beyond the boundaries of Bolivia. After being considered by many experts as the best folk group of their type in South America, "Los Jairas" made several successful tours to Europe and other continents. The group grew out of an earlier folk ensemble called Conjunto De La Peña Naira. The word "Jaira" is Aymara for "lazy".
