Arnold Wiley
Arnold 'Doc' Wiley, born c. 1900, from Helena, Ark., base for other pianists like Roosevelt Sykes, Jesse Bell, Baby Sneed, Willie Kelly, and Joe Crump. Brother of Irene Wiley (2), brother-in-law of Doc Parmley. Went to Chicago in the late 1920s. Made his first recordings there and led a group with New Orleans drummer Frankie Franko in Indiana, 1929. Was in Detroit, recorded again after World War II. Good ragtime player, full of surprise on the blues, excellent technician. Associated with Sweet Williams during his Chicago period.
