Geza Bachmann

Hungarian-Australian musician (violin) - b. Budapest 2 April, 1918

Studied violin at Franz Liszt Conservatorium, Budapest with Eugen Eubay. Won Eubat Prize 1938, Leader of the State Opera House Orchestra, Budapest in 1939. Toured Europe with Otto Klemperer and Eugene Ormandy. Arrived in Australia in 1949 and began to broadcast on Sydney radio stations. Leader of Australian National Opera Company Orchestra 1952, then first violinist with Sydney Symphony Orchestra 1954-1956.
