The Japanese War Effort

Real name: Martin Moog

Effective period / Period of releases: 2010

Members: James Scott (7)

The Japanese War Effort is a one man ambient pop band, based in the city of Glasgow. Martin Moog, or James Scott, is one half of Conquering Animal Sound, but when working alone contrives to create a form of stylised electronic pop music quite different from his day job. Initially experimenting with found sound collages and rhythms, Moog now marries the folk/electronic sounds of Four Tet with the poignant Scotticisms of Ivor Cutler in dextrous compositions, layered in stuttering techno kicks and imperfect takes, and bridges the gap between pop song sensibilities and a love of the abstract.
