Real name: Garo Hovannesi Zakarian (Armenian Կարո Հովհաննեսի Զաքարյան)

Garo Hovannesi Zakarian (Armenian Կարո Զաքարյան) - Soviet Armenian composer and conductor, People's Artist of the Armenian SSR (1960).

Caro Zakarian was born December 15, 1895 in Van (Turkey). In 1916-1918 he studied at the Petrograd Conservatory in the special theory of music at the SM Lyapunov, then at the Tbilisi Conservatory composition class N. Tcherepnin and MMIppolitov -Ivanov. In the years 1921-1929 Zakarian was choirmaster and teacher at the House of Armenian art in Tbilisi. In 1929 he moved to Yerevan, where he taught at the conservatory in choral class. In 1938-1953 he headed the chorus radio Yerevan. Since 1949, member of the CPSU. Zakarian collected Kurdish folk songs, composed by the Armenian national basis. Known primarily as a choral composer. Died May 11, 1967 in Yerevan.
