French singer, born in Carpentras on August 9, 1870, died in Paris on April 1, 1946, usually credited as Monsieur Bérard, or Mr. Bérard,
Short in stature, described as inelegant, almost lame, and slightly cross-eyed but with a commanding and powerful, almost operatic voice and impeccable enunciation, he was a beloved entertainer in his day and major star during the French Belle Époque of the 1920's. He is credited with over 400 recordings between 1906 and 1931, and performed continuously at the Eldorado music hall in Paris for over 20 years.
