Biography
Poor Heart
Effective period / Period of releases: 1987
"Poor Heart was a recording session that Lou sang in prior to him being in his next pre-Foreigner band, Black Sheep. The recording sessions for Poor Heart were done in the very early 70's (approx '70-'73). Lou only sang on this album, he is not credited with any songwriting. Nothing ever officially came of the recordings at the time.In the mid 80's, someone got ahold of the masters of the Poor Heart sessions and released them to capitalize on Lou's current fame in Foreigner. Originally, it came out as a vinyl record labeled "Poor Heart featuring Louis Grammatico". The quality of the recordings is not very good, and Lou's voice is very rough at this point in time, not having matured to what is familiar to all of us. Over time, these masters and copies of the Poor Heart sessions keep cropping up in CD format time and again--with Foreigner or Lou's name all over it. They are always the same songs, same recordings, and despite the packaging or labels, are all bootlegs released without Lou's knowledge or permission. Many are released on varying labels and countries as well.
In an opportunity to have asked Lou about the Poor Heart tapes, he emphatically stated that he dislikes the recordings very much because of the sound and recording quality, and he is frustrated by the constant re-releasing of them. However, he doesn't have much control over the release of the songs because he did not co-write any of them, he is only singing the songs. He did add they are bootlegs and he has never endorsed any of the re-releases."
