The Pillbugs was an American indie/power pop/psychedelic pop band, active from 1991 to 2008, and based in Toledo, Ohio. In the early nineties, the group was touring and recording under their founder's name, Mark Mikel. They had been performing live extensively, and released two original albums, Sorghum Pudding '93 and The Idiot Smiles '94, as well as a collection of covers The Mark Mikel Hallucination - Blatant Ripoffs in 1996. The group was renamed to The Pillbugs around 1998.In 2008, the group's bass player and vocalist Mark Kelley passed away, fighting a rare form of lung cancer since he was diagnosed in July 1999. The Pillbugs disbanded after that.
