Uncle Lumpy was a nickname used by Hugh Brannum (born January 5, 1910, Sandwich, Illinois – died April 19, 1987) an American vocalist, arranger, composer, and actor. During WW II, he played in a U.S. marine band with Bob Crosby and joined the Four Squires after the war. While with Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians, Brannum started using his family nickname, 'Lumpy.' Hosted Uncle Lumpy's Cabin on WABC-TV in 1951. Known also for playing Mr. Green Jeans and several other characters on the children's television show Captain Kangaroo.
