The Gateway Singers

Members: Ernie Sheldon, Travis Edmonson, Louis Gottlieb, Jerry Walter, Elmerlee Thomas

American folk band centered out of Berkeley, California.
Founded by Jerry Walter, Travis Edmondson, Lou Gottlieb & Jim Wood.
Members included: Jerry Walter – 5-String Banjo/vocals, Ernie Sheldon – Guitar/Bass/vocals1958-59, Travis Edmonson – Guitar/vocals 1955-58, Elmerlee Thomas – Lead vocals 1955-60, Lou Gottlieb – Bass/baritone vocals 1955-58. Jim Wood – Guitar/vocals, 1955, Mark Richards – Guitar, 1958-61, Adam Fredericks – Guitar, 1959-61.
Lou Gottlieb was bassist with the group for awhile before returning to the Univeristy of California at Berkeley to complete his dissertation for his PhD in Musicology. He was replaced by Ernie Sheldon, who was also playing guitar for the group at the time.
