The '06 Style formed as a group of Gamma Xi fraternity brothers attending the University of California, Los Angeles around 1987. They are considered to be the first hip-hop group to have produced, written and performed a record exclusively by Black college students. The group consisted of Tim Reid II (That Guy), Dorsey Fuller III (DF3), Robert Dorn (2) (Code Red) and later added a fourth member Darius Farrelly (Disco D). Reid's father, the famous actor Tim Reid (2), used his networking to help his son's group get into the music industry and form their own record label GIG Records (6). The group landed a deal with Profile Records and released a pair of singles, including the song "Steppin' Into The House" that received national airplay. Tim Reid II eventually ventured out on his own as a hip-hop producer and later a marketing music executive.
