Phyllis Marshall

Real name: Phyllis Irene Elizabeth Marshall

Effective period / Period of releases: 1964

Canadian singer and actress. She started her singing career on radio at the age of 15 in the mid-30s and by 1947 was touring with Cab Calloway as a backing vocalist. She appeared regularly on TV starting with the very first Canadian TV broadcast in 1952 and was considered one of Canada's first TV stars. She was also popular in England and was the first black person to have their own BBC TV special (The Phyllis Marshall Special in 1959).
