Sinking Steps... Rising Eyes was a seven-piece screamo/post-hardcore band from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They formed in September of 2001 and disbanded in 2005, during which time they released a five-song EP and a six-song full-length. They went through several lineup changes throughout their existence, mostly due to family responsibilities and school. Eli and Mary were the only constant members. In 2011 the band reunited to record two songs originally written and performed in 2002 and released them on 7" vinyl.

Aaron had previously played in the band Eclipse Of Eden. Eli, Josh, and Brandon have been playing in the band Roman Ships since 2008.
