Alexey Kovalev (April 12, 1911 - June 29, 2002, Moscow) - Russian conductor.He studied at the Moscow Conservatory at the Faculty of Science and Composition (1928-33).
In 1934-36 he worked at Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra (Moscow) as an assistant to N. S. Golovanov = Николай Голованов.
In 1936-41 - conductor of the Opera and Drama Studio named after K. S. Stanislavsky.
For about 20 years (1938–51 and 1957–61) he conducted the All-Union Radio Symphony Orchestra = Большой Симфонический Оркестр Всесоюзного Радио or Оркестр ВРК, made many recordings with this orchestra (including rare repertoire), published at Апрелевский Завод and other Soviet record factories (reprints since 1964 - at Мелодия company).
A number of Kovalev's radio records have not been published.
He also worked and recorded with the Variety Orchestra = Эстрадный Оркестр Всесоюзного Радио.
In 1961-83 - teacher at the Moscow State Institute of Culture (professor).
