From Dayton, Ohio, 1993-late 1997: Jason Baker, Steve Bright, and Kevin Todd (Parrett) made music and toured the US under the moniker of A Ten O'Cock Scholar. Equally influenced by artists such as Brainiac, Cigarhead, Charles Mingus, Pharoah Sanders, Slint, Hammerhead, Come, and Unsane, they released a demo cassette, a single on What Else? Records and a full length on Grass Records titled 'Quietest'. What Else? and Grass Records releases were recorded at AmRep studios by Tim Mac. More material was recorded by Darryl Robbins, Dave Doughman and Bob Weston, but the band fell apart before any of those tracks were released. It should be noted that Steve Bright had grown a distinctive goiter which eventually broke up the band. The members split, but continued making music in subsequent bands. Jason currently plays drums with The Male Models. Steve played with Ohio Casket, Abracadaver, the Dirty Walk and started The Human Reunion with Kevin Todd, Jeremy Frederick (Cigarhead, Let's Crash), and Craig Nichols (The Method, Shesus, robthebank, Guided By Voices). Kevin began playing with Matt Schulz (Cigarhead, Enon, Holy Fuck) and Ben Perkins (The Exponential) in Aperiodic, before forming space-rock band Lab Partners with Mike Smith and Amy Davis/Smith. Kevin played with Patterns of Static, with Duane Hart and Craig Nichols, until they disbanded. Kevin is currently recording new material with Aperiodic and has released a 7" on Generate Records.
