Klaus Wiese

Real name: Klaus Wiese

Effective period / Period of releases: 1981 - 2023

Klaus Wiese was a German ambient musician, born 18 January, 1942 - died 27 January, 2009, in Ulm, Germany. He was a multiinstrumentalist, specializing in ambient, meditative and healing acoustic music. He played the zither, chimes, Persian string instruments and more, and mastered Tibetan "singing" bowls, sometimes with vocals. Wiese is considered by some as one of the great ambient or space music artists alongside Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Michael Stearns, Constance Demby and Jonn Serrie. He was briefly a member of Popol Vuh in the early 1970s where he played tamboura on their 3rd and fourth albums Hosianna Mantra and Seligpreisung, after they'd quit playing Krautrock and Florian Fricke had sold his Big Moog to Klaus Schulze, and instead started playing ambient, acoustic and sacral music with piano, electric guitar, ancient Asian instruments and big choirs.
