Graduated from the Peacbody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. USA. He became Al Jolson's musical director in 1919.
He was introduced to musical comedy by Earl Carroll, who persuaded him to collaborate in producing his musical, "So Long, Letty." Goodman worked on several successful Broadway musicals in the 1920s-40s.
Eventually Goodman became involved with directing, composing and supervising music for radio and television productions.
