Lawrence Brooks

Real name: Robert Cutter

American-Australian singer and actor who was resident in Australia from the late 1938 up until his death - b. Los Angeles 26 Jan., 1907 - d. Newport, NSW 4 Jan., 1994

Recorded in the U.S. under his real name (credited as Bob Cutter). Worked with various West Coast bands in the early 1930s and toured with Jay Whidden Orchestra through the Southern States of America from mid-1935 to mid-1936. When the Whidden band was brought to Australia he came along as one of the vocalists, and while on the ship en route he changed his name to Lawrence Brooks. After Roy Fox took over the Whidden band he stayed on and eventually joined Jim Davidson's A.B.C. Dance Orchestra in August 1938. He continued to be active as a singer in Australia until the late 1950s.
