Mel B. Kaufman

Real name: Melville Bernd Kaufman

American songwriter (born Newark, NJ, April 23, 1879 – died New York, NY, February 21, 1932)

Selling undergarments and kimonos by day, Kaufman published his first of many songs, "Big Ben," in 1918. In 1919, he had his first hit with the one-step "Me-Ow," followed by "Taxi." "Stop It" (1920, with lyrics by Harry D. Kerr) became a popular circus piece.
