Biography
Hunter Rose
Effective period / Period of releases: 2000
Hunter Rose was an emo/punk rock band that played in and around Grand Rapids during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The original members of the band included Jeff Nanzer (bass/vocals), Tony Carlson (guitar/vocals) and Derek Lancioni (drums). The group was a restructuring of the old pop-punk band Just For Kicks with all the same members, but then quickly added Yann Kerevel from With Arms Still Empty/Kill You For A Dollar Records. Hunter Rose’s first EP (EP01) was recorded as a Just For Kicks album (w/o Yann on guitar), but was then released as Hunter Rose. In 2000, Hunter Rose recorded two tracks (Static, Never Dreamed) for the Billy split 7”. Never Dreamed was not used on the 7” and ended up on the iii comp cd. EP02 was recorded in February 2001 and featured 4 tracks. One of these tracks (Through the Lens) also featured on a Friction Records CD sampler. Hunter Rose toured outside of Grand Rapids five times, including with bands John Brown Battery (Chicago, IL) and Since By Man (Milwaukee, WI). In March 2001, the band suffered a horrific accident on their way home from a show in Colorado Springs. Everyone was ok, but their touring van was totaled. The band was largely inactive following the accident until about 2002 when Jeff relocated the band to Lansing, without Tony and Derek, and brought on Chris and John to join the band. Yann stuck around for a bit, but quickly left the band after a few practices in Lansing. The new lineup recorded EP03 and EP04.
