Boat Of was formed in Athens, Georgia in late 1979 by Tom Smith (2) and Mike Green (17). The latter had previously been a member of Atlanta proto-new wave combo The Fans, and the former had been experimenting with dub and tape cut-ups since 1977 from his rural hometown of Adel, Georgia.
