Elaine Fink, from the midwest, born in Waukegan, Illiois, studied voice and piano at Universities of Michigan and Illinois.
Janet Perlstein, from the northwest, born in Los Angeles, California, moving north at an early age, studied music at Mills College in Oakland and at UCLA.
Harvey Gerst, from the southwest, born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in California, studied guitar under famed jazzman Barney Kessel,
Steve Cohen (16) guitarist/banjoist--from the east, born in New York City. He played with and led groups in Greenwich Village's Washington Square.
Each had a foundation in classical training but found folk more to their liking.
