Real name: Sir Michael John Gambon

Irish-born English actor.
Born 19 October 1940 in Cabra, Dublin, Ireland.
Died 28 September 2023 in Witham, Essex, England.
Gambon was best known for his stage work, especially in plays by Bertolt Brecht, Alan Ayckbourn, Harold Pinter and Arthur Miller. He won an Olivier Award for his performance in “A View From the Bridge” and received acclaim for his roles as King Lear, Antony and Falstaff. He also appeared in many films and television shows, most notably as Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” series. He also played Lyndon B. Johnson, Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill and the title character in “The Singing Detective”. He was admired for his versatility, energy, tenderness and intuition as an actor. He said he prepared for his roles by focusing on the physical aspects of the characters and relying on his imagination. He was knighted in 1998 and had three sons with two women. He was passionate about antique guns and fast cars. He retired from theater in 2013 after suffering from memory loss and panic attacks.
