Jim Shumate

North Carolina-born Jim Shumate was a fiddler with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys when Earl Scruggs joined the group in 1945. He was included in the first iteration of Flatt and Scruggs’s Foggy Mountain Boys, with whom he recorded four Mercury sides in Cincinnati in the fall of 1948.
