The Knowe O'Deil Band hail from Orkney. its members had been playing for many years in ub sessions in and around Orkney before forming the group more than 10 years ago. Since this time the band has seen many talented Orcadian members come and go. There is a good tradition of music in Orkney, although there seem to be more tunes than songs. Very little of it has been heard outside Orkneny itself. There is an Orkney folk festival every year, held in the town of Stromness in May, and occasionally ceilidhs are held throughout the county. All members of the band are self taught Most of the tunes are Orcadian tradition, some of them are from famous native fiddlers. Remarkably enough, this is the first revivalist LP of folk music on the Orkneys.
