Gustavo Freiré

Real name: Gustavo Freire Penelas

Galician composer of folk music (Lugo, 17-IX-1985, Id. 10-X-1948).
Trained in Lugo and at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música, Madrid (1907-19010), first violin of the Orquesta Filarmónica De Madrid, member of the Governing Board of the SGAE, at the end of the Civil War he secluded himself in Lugo where he survives giving violin and solfeggio classes and playing a daily session in the Círculo de las Artes with the cellist Manuel Fernandez Rodriguez and the pianist Manuel Sariñena. In Lugo he composed various works, the most ambitious being the zarzuela in three acts, "Non Chores Sabeliña", on a libretto by Jose Trapero.
