Germán Benítez

Real name: Germán Benítez Barón

Singer and composer born in Medellín on November 12, 1860.

He formed several duets with the most important singers of the time, such as Pelón Santamarta, Clímaco Vergara, Daniel Restrepo, and others.
Within his compositions there are two that have been very strongly inserted in the Colombian songbook: “Amor Inútil” which was popularized by “Obdulio y Julián” and “Triste Ofrenda” recorded by Margarita Cueto and Evaristo Flórez. Other of his works are the bambucos "Los Sauces", "Tu nombre", "Luna mia", and others.
Germán Benítez died in Medellín, in a state of absolute poverty, on March 28, 1948.
