Born on 4 Jun 1946, he was a prolific Indian singer and actor. He was also known as S. P. B. and Balu. He died on 25 Sep 2020 (aged 74), after medical complications due to COVID-19.
In a career spanning over 50 years he had recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages. He had won 6 national awards, Filmfare award and had also received Padma Shri & Padma Bhushan awards from the Government of India in 2001 and 2011. He is also known to hold the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs by a singer.
