Mestre Verequete was a Brazilian singer and composer who pioneered the Carimbó genre. While it has existed since the 19th century, Verequete and his ensemble were the first to record this genre in Brazil in 1970, with the album “Só Podia Ser”. He was born on 26 August 1916 and died on 3 November 2009 at the age of 93.
