American jazz guitar player born on July 15, 1946 in New York City. He was a drum prodigy who in his teens played with Mongo Santamaria. He taught himself how to play guitar, joined the doo-wop group The Arrogants, and played in the U.S. Army 440th General's Band. He played guitar in the musicals Hair and Godspell.
