Carlos Alberto Burlet aka El Greco was born on August 20, 1946, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina; in a town called San Pedro, 170 km from the federal capital. At the age of 13 he formed his first group with friends from the neighborhood: Los BĂșhos, inspired by the Beatles, of which he was the singer. They played on birthdays, parties, assaults and camping in nearby areas. After 2 years he leaves the band, since the director of the group Los Comandantes sees him in a rehearsal and hires him to sing with them. He stays almost a year. Rudy Machado tempts him to be the singer of his orchestra, he accepts and they go on tour throughout the country. He is then hired by The Colombian Piper but must leave the (succesful) tour because he has to do military service (2 years in the navy).At the end of the military service, he uses his savings to record 2 demo tracks, which earn him his first contract, with EMI. He decides to change his image and shaves his beard and mustache. Because he now resembles the Spanish painter El Greco, he gats taht nickname. At the end of the 1960s he becomes succesful in Latin America with Raise Your Cup, Toast For Goodbye. 1971 sees him performing at Carnegie Hall in New York. He becomes succesful in the US and Europe. In 1973 he writes the main theme and the songs for the movie I Was Born On The Riverbank. He writes the song The Night Is Moving for Ethel Rojo in the movie of the same name. American director Charly Gray gives him the role of Judas in the Buenos Aires production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Around that time El Greco also appears in various photonovelas.
In the 1980s he makes a break in his career. He lives a few years in the United States and doing production work with national and international artists. At the beginning of the 1990s, he produces the New Parchis and cumbia and salsa bands. In the late '90s he has a hit with La Cumbia Del Garrote. Director Alejandro Gonzales (of Amores Perros fame) and Gustavo Santaolalla use his music in movies. He signs a 7 year deal with Sony Music of Mexico and moves there. He is based there for 7 years, producing for Mexican artists and also for others abroad.
