British dark wave/fetish/BDSM band from Newcastle upon Tyne, founded in 1995 and closely linked to the Bats and Red Velvet goth magazine (BRV) and "The Midian" club night. The band was heavily influenced by the continental dark wave scene with groups such as Project Pitchfork, Die Form, Das Ich, Dance or Die and Clan of Xymox, and have often been compared to Anne Clark by the music press. They gave their first gig at Leicester's Hellfire Club in January 1996 and signed to Nightbreed Recordings the same year, releasing their debut "The Pleasure of Sin" with hits like "Kiss the Whip" and "Dreams". Athamay also played at several festivals with bands such as Attrition, The Merry Thoughts, Fading Colours, Die Laughing, and Midnight Configuration.Formation:
