Archie Alleyne

Archie Alleyne, OC (born January 7, 1933, Toronto, Ontario, Canada – died June 8, 2015, Toronto, Ontario, Canada) was a Canadian jazz drummer. He performed with notable jazz musicians such as Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster. He was also prominent as a recording artist on his own and with Canadian jazz musicians such as Oliver Jones and Brian Browne. In 2012, he was named an Officer of The Order Of Canada. He established the Archie Alleyne Scholarship Fund (AASF) a not-for-profit organization to recognize and encourage academic excellence in jazz studies.
