German-American contemporary visual artist involved in a broad range of media, including sculpture, drawing and printmaking (b. 18 January 1954, Nuremberg, West Germany). Kiki Smith lives and works between NYC's Lower East Side and Hudson Valley, New York. Her works often deal with gender, AIDS, birth and regeneration, and other primal human conditions.

Born in Germany, Kiki Smith moved to New Jersey, USA, as an infant in 1955. She attended Hartford Art School in Connecticut in 1974–75 but dropped out and relocated to New York City. She joined an iconic Collaborative Projects Inc artistic collective, also known as "Colab," in its early formation days.
