Biography

Laís
Real name: Laís Aquino Marques
Laís Aquino Marques is a tropicalist and MPB singer-songwriter from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, most active in the 1960s and 1970s. She has recorded some contributions with Hermes Aquino in the early '70s. Both artists are associated with the emergence of psychedelic music in Brazil and are considered two of the rare representatives of Tropicalismo in Rio Grande do Sul. Contrary to what other online sources say, Laís and Hermes were neither cousins nor relatives and their common surname was a mere coincidence. Her songs were recorded by prominent artists such as Tom Zé, Joyce, O Bando, and Liverpool among others.
