project Hypoxia (official capitalization) is a post-industrial/ethnic electronic project formed in Kaliningrad, Russia, now based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Founded in Kaliningrad, Russia by Mark Shaman (Mark Potapov) and Kristina Teermaal in June 2007 under the name "Vanwa". Kristina left the project in August 2009 and it became an one-man project by Mark Shaman. In 2010 the project changed name to "Hypoxia", and in November 2013 changed again to "project Hypoxia", also changing sound from EBM/industrial/power noise to experimental ethnic electronic, combining different genres - from tribal/ethno electronic to dark ambient to trip-hop to post-industrial.
At the end of 2014 the project moved from Kaliningrad to Saint-Petersburg.
