American jazz drummer, born June 4, 1926 in New York; died March 7, 1982 in Los Angeles.Thompson has recorded with Charlie Parker (1946), Howard McGhee and Benny Carter (1947), Dexter Gordon (1947, 1952, 1955), Stan Kenton (1949), Wardell Gray (1950), Hampton Hawes (1955-1956), and Sonny Criss (1956-57).
