Sven Verde

Real name: Sven Leo Verde

Swedish conductor and orchestra leader, born 25 May 1930 in Tjärstad in Östergötland, died 30 January 2003 in Hägersten parish in Stockholm.

Sven Verde was the first child of the artists Leoo Verde (1904–1976) and Mary-Ann Tollin-Verde (1903–1993) and grew up on a croft outside Linköping. He studied piano for Gottfrid Boon and LilleBror Söderlundh. He graduated as a piano teacher in 1955 and trained as a conductor for Siegfried Naumann and Herbert Blomstedt. He led the Workers' Union's Chamber Orchestra from 1963.

He formed the chamber orchestra Musica Sveciæ in 1970 and the symphony orchestra Unga Musiker in 1978. He was the first conductor of the Stockholm Strauss Orchestra from 1992. During the 1980s he was a music producer on Swedish Radio together with Stig Rybrant and Sten Frykberg.
