Biography
Hako Yamasaki
Real name: 山崎初子(Yamasaki Hatsuko)
Effective period / Period of releases: 1975 - 2011
Japanese folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and actress, born 18 May 1957 in Hita City, Oita Prefecture. A pioneer of the folk-boom in 1970s Japan, Hako Yamasaki has had an intensive output, releasing 34 albums from 1975 to 2018. After the folk-boom passed in the 1980s and Japan culturally moved to what is now called city pop, Yamasaki came close to homelessness due to the underwhelming sales of her albums. She transferred to the Polydor label in 1985, releasing four albums until falling into a 3½ year hiatus before releasing SA・SU・GA in 1990.
