Musician, composer and autodidact guitar player. He was an important figure in many different music scenes, as he shared a room with João Gilberto while living in Rio. He moved to São Paulo in the 1960s and became an artistic director in João Sebastião Bar, where among other things, was the first place where Chico Buarque played live, brought on by Jorge Mautner.

Later in the decade, he founds the groundbreaking Jogral, a minuscule bar where artists, poets and musicians would often meet and play. One of such artists was Paulo Vanzolini, with whom Paraná would often "duel" porfias (moda-de-viola challenges).
