Dutch bassist, composer and producer, born July 18, 1956 in Schijndel. Co-founder of the Challenge Jazz label and leader of his own band called Baseline. He studied classical violin for 15 years and also used to play the guitar. He started on electric bass guitar as a teenager and switched to double bass in the late 1970s. He has played with artists like Chet Baker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Jack van Poll and Paulien van Schaik. In 2010 he moved to South Africa where he teaches at Cape Town's university. He has auhtored the Comprehensive Bass Method and other books.
