Ileāna Pētersone

Estonian/Swedish opera singer (mezzo-soprano), November 23, 1934 in Riga, died June 23, 2013 in Stockholm. Her name is Ileana Peterson in Swedish.

She studied singing for Britta von Vegesack and Käthe Sundström in Stockholm and Clemens Kaiser-Breme in Essen, Germany.

She made her debut in 1963 at the Royal Theater (now the Royal Opera) in Stockholm in the role of Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto. In the years 1964–1988 she was employed at the Royal Theater where she made Ortrud in Lohengrin, Azuncena in Troubadour, Ulrika in Masquerade Ball, Fricka in Rhenguldet and Valkyrian, Marcellina in Figaro's wedding and The Barber in Seville. She also guest starred in Oslo, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Wiesbaden, Warsaw and Moscow.

On two occasions, Peterson was awarded the Statens Konstnärsstipendium, and the Kristina Nilssonstipendiet. She was awarded a scholarship from the Friends of Drottningholmsteatern (from Henrik Nordmark's fund) in 1979 and a scholarship from Set Svanholm's memorial fund in 1972.
