Scottish singer, writer and Gaelic language activist born Stirling ,October 21st, 1944 .
She has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, Honorary Fellowships from the University of the Highlands and Islands, the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, Rotary International, and the Institute of Scottish Literary Studies, and in 2010 the Scottish Government appointed her their Ambassador for Gaelic.
