Neil Thurgate
Australian musician (saxophone & trumpet), composer and arranger (b. Nowra, NSW 13 Aug. 1919 -
Came to Australia with The Americanadians in 1937 and worked with this group in Sydney & New Zealand. Later worked with various bands until went back to US in May 1948 to study arranging. Returned to Australia and worked with ABC as staff arranger (1950-1971). Mostly did orchestrations for ABC Symphony Orchestra and various dance bands. His composition "Serenade For Strings" was recorded by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
