Real name: John Perez

Born on October 23, 1940 in Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago.
Passed away on March 29, 2022 in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada (81 years old).

John "Jayson" Perez began his musical career as a member of the Trinidad & Tobago Coast Guard Steelband during the 1960s. After moving to Canada, he led the band The Legends from 1970 to 1983 and then embarked on a career as a calypsonian. He was a four-time Canadian Calypso Monarch and in 1991 won a Juno in the Calypso/Reggae category for "Soldiers We Are All," becoming the first and so far only calypso artist to receive this honour. He later ran a program teaching calypso in Canadian schools.
