John Barnes Wells

Effective period / Period of releases: 1910 - 1916

(October 17, 1880 – August 8, 1935) American composer and popular singer. He starred in the 1903 musical theater production of The Wizard of Oz. One of his last performances was in Uncle Tom's Cabin (1933). This artist is also credited with composing some of the ditties he recorded alone and in tandem with singing partner Mildred Potter or the Columbia Stellar Quartet vocal ensemble. Entitled "I Dunno," one of these songs comes up in reference to the flighty, cozy, and intriguing topic of parlor songs about birds. The tune itself may be a grammatically feeble answer to a previous question-song by Wells, "Why?"
