The Ronettes

Effective period / Period of releases: 1962 - 2017

Members: Veronica Bennett, Nedra Talley, Estelle Bennett, Kim Lewis (3), Chip Fields

Formed by sisters Estelle Bennett (1941-2009) and Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett (1943-2022) and their maternal cousin Nedra Talley (1946-) in New York in 1961.

The group started life as the Darling Sisters, and was shortly afterward renamed Ronnie and the Relatives by Estelle and Veronica's mother, Bernice Bennett, and they eventually reinvented themselves as The Ronettes. The group broke up in 1967.

They are the group most closely associated with the ‘wall of sound’ production technique of producer Phil Spector, to whom Ronnie was married from 1968 to 1974 and henceforth publicly known as Ronnie Spector.

Their 1963 single Be My Baby was a major influence on Brian Wilson, and consequently, on the sound of The Beach Boys.

The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007 (Performer).
